Melrose, Florida

For a genuine flashback of the 1800's, stop by Melrose for some sweet history. Melrose was settles shortly after the Civil War on abandoned cotton fields. History did Melrose a favor in preserving the many of the historic homes, which are still used by residents today. Some serve as bed and breakfast for the traveler. The lakes in the area were conected by a canal and a natural river in which a steamboat would ship citrus crates and visitors. In the mid 1890's a bitter cold ruined almost all of the citrus crop and damaged the town a great deal. Some years it hardly survived but is yet left with the beautiful historic town that it is today.
